Do you want to know more about the mechanisms of earthquakes? How do seismologists determine the coordinates of the epicenter? How does stress distribute and how to interpret it?
We kindly invite you to a series of meetings with
Prof. Vassilios Karakostas and Prof. Eleftheria Papadimitriou from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. They will present practical approaches for solving the above mentioned questions. Both are professors in seismology at the Geophysics Department. Prof. Karakostas has strong expertise in seismology, seismotectonics, tsunami hazards, statistical seismology, seismic hazard assessment. Prof. Papadimitriou is an expert in long-term earthquake prediction, fault plane solutions and stress patterns.
The lectures are targeted for Master and PhD students, but all interested in the subject are also kindly invited. The seminars will held in room 100G as follows:
- 18th of October 2021: Earthquake epicentral coordinates determination (10:00-12:00)
- 19th of October 2021: Fault Plane Solution Representation (10:00-12:00)
- 21st of October 2021: Fault Plane Solution Determination (14:00-16:00)
- 22nd of October 2021: Stress field identification and interpretation (10:00-12:00)
