GATHERS hackathon - AUSTRIA

GATHERS-hack datadive is a 2-day hackathon of the Twinning Project "GATHERS – Integration of Geodetic and imAging TecHniques for monitoring and modelling the Earths surface defoRmations and Seismic risk” taking place from April 13 th -14 th 2023 and is hosted by the Department of Geodesy and Geoinformatics of Technische Universitaet Wien (TU  Wien) in cooperation with Institute of Geodesy and Geoinformatics Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences (UPWr) The Department of Geodesy and Geoinformatics at TU Wien will host a hackathon, lasting for two days, in the upcoming week.

During the event, participants from 5 different countries will visit Vienna to take part of either a technical or a creative challenge to test their skills in coding or design. The participants will create groups to work on data analysis of Laser Scanning Point Clouds as state of the art 3D data. The possibility of describing our environment by focussing on software development and GIS but also creating visualization of geodata and 3D point clouds and graphic design is given.

For the event, different point clouds are available for exploring their content:

• Creating and describing new applications,
  
• Implementing innovative analyses of point clouds.

The GATHERS hackathon is looking for new ideas and solutions for technical problems as well as for interaction within society and is organized in three phases:

• Introduction and group building (plenary session),
  
• Challenges, the main phase (group work),
  
• Presentation of results, summary and award ceremony (plenary session).

In collaboration of the main partners specialists, like Prof. Grzegorz Jóźków (UPWr) and
Prof. Norbert Pfeifer (TU Wien) and their teams, will provide theoretical but also practical support during the event. The hackathon implies a Kick-Off event as well as a closing event with presentations presentation of the group’s outcomes. A jury including experts from academy and industry will evaluate all ideas/solutions and give feedback to the creators.
